The labor law encourages trade unions. The law encouraging trade unions came into force in 1842, after there as overturning of the law discouraging trade unions in a case, Commonwealth of Massachusetts v. Hunt. Previously the law was against unionism, a Philadelphia court ruled out an attempt of Philadelphia shoemakers to form a union to protest against the employers wage cuts.
